Junior / Intermediate Electrical Engineer

Our team is looking for a full-time Jr / Intermediate Electrical Engineer who is comfortable working in a dynamic environment and is looking to further their career. The company culture revolves around working as a team and helping one-an-other to grow.

The projects that you will be working on will vary from site grading, containment, access roads, rail lines, storage facilities, culverts, buried pipe and utilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Supports project team in development of design documentation, plans and reports for relevant project design elements;

  • Assists in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats;

  • Utilizes technologies in development of three-dimensional models of electrical systems;

  • Prepares and revises documentation in various project phases including site plans, floor plans, diagrams, and details;

  • Prepares equipment specifications, datasheets, material requisitions, and technical bid evaluations;

  • Coordinates with other disciplines to ensure compatibility with the design intent;

  • Assists in the review of shop drawings and submittals, responds to request for information, prepares site observation reports, and performs other contract administration tasks;

  • Assists with the development of job specific discipline specifications;

  • Assists in the evaluation and selection of electrical systems and materials;

  • Attends project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants;

  • Participates in value engineering and basic cost estimating;

  • Implements sustainable design principles;

  • Performs calculations to analyze and design electrical system components using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software.

 

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited University. Registered member of the Professional Engineers of Alberta or other provinces;

  • 5-10 years of electrical design experience in the design and implementation of MV and LV electrical systems including substations, motors and drives, power distribution, power generation, as well as working knowledge of field instrumentation and automated equipment integration. Excellent working knowledge of Canadian electrical codes and standards, relevant industry standards and regulations. Understanding of MV and LV power distribution design concepts, equipment and personnel safety strategies and electrical system protection theories and applications;

  • Experience in water/wastewater treatment and other industrial facilities would be considered a valuable asset;

  • Working knowledge of power system analysis software such as ETAP, SKM,, Cyme, EasyPower, or similar, is an asset;

  • Working knowledge of electrical CEC code and industry standards such as IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, NFPA, ABC, and CSA; Strong analytical skills. Demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail and continual diligence to follow-up. Ability to exercise sound judgment;

  • Self-motivated, with strong desire to learn and fulfill client expectations;

  • Well organized, with the ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects. Strong organizational interpersonal and written/oral communication skills;

  • Must be able to be a part of cross-functional teams with the ability to relate well and cooperate with other members of the team, to effectively coordinate activities and accomplish goals;

  • Experience in project management considered an asset;

  • Strong communication skills are required for this role; Field review and commissioning experience is considered an asset;

  • Experience with MS office suite and MS project;

  • Must be able to handle very detailed work and demonstrate a high level of accuracy;

  • Must be willing to provide mentorship as needed;

  • Must have a "get it done" attitude and be proactive;

  • Must have strong time management skills with the ability to multi-task and manage multiple deadlines;

  • Must be able to work in a team environment and independently with minimal supervision;
